LEWISTON — TV journalist Jane Pauley, Pulitzer-winnning novelist and Bates College graduation Elizabeth Strout and renown climate change scientist James McCarthy will be among many in town Sunday when Bates College’s 144th commencement ceremony takes place.

The event will conclude the undergraduate careers of 456 members of the Bates’ class of 2010, which represent 33 states and 33 countries, and will bestow honorary degrees on five others.

In addition to Pauley, Strout and McCarthy, Rennie Harris, the choreographer who brought hip hop to the mainstream world of dance, and Teresa Woodruff, a researcher responsible for pioneering work in the care of women who will become infertile due to cancer treatment, will receive honorary degrees.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. on the college’s quad, at Campus Avenue and College Street.
