The letter written on Jan. 4 titled “”Manipulation”” by William Culter has hurt me deeply. It hurt my heart when he said Rev. Doug Taylor “”holds no office and has no position of great influence in the city,”” and his work is not “”newsworthy.””

I used to be a horrible person. I used to lie, steal and hurt others. I was selfish and filled with hate. I wasn’t even 10 years old by the time I had a record for theft and breaking and entering.

Then one day I looked up and saw a sign that read, “”The Jesus Party.”” I meet Brother Doug at that time. He had something I needed. He had Jesus Christ. He’s the one who told me about Jesus, and I then became a Christian.

Because of his influence as a children’s pastor in the city I have become a better person. I don’t hate or lie or steal. Now at 17, I’m filled with peace, love and joy.

Brother Doug’s influence in my life has taught me how to stand up for God and my beliefs.

I’m not the only life that has been touched by him. There are others, the children of the city who walk though his doors. He has changed lives for the better. I don’t believe the White House could have more influence on our city’s children and teens than Brother Doug can.

Doug Taylor is my pastor, and a source of great positive influence in my life and the lives of the children of Lewiston.
