The speaker also outlined ways that seniors could prevent identification theft.

RUMFORD — Linda Hooker, triad coordinator at the Oxford County Sheriffs Office, was the featured speaker on “”Elderly Crime Protection”” at the March 11 meeting of the Oxford County Republican Committee at the Masonic Hall on Route 232. The session begins with a social hour and a roast beef supper.

Hooker discussed techniques and educational opportunities to assist seniors in preventing elder abuse. She also detailed some useful hints to prevent ID theft and fraud as well as driving safely as one gets older.

Following the speaker, a business meeting was held. Norman Ferguson discussed his work with the reapportionment effort, noting that each House seat should represent 8,443 Maine citizens and each Senate seat 36,426. State Committeewoman Becky Kindle discussed the importance of caucuses and the need to improve participation and reporting. Chairman Paul Billings announced that the county now has a thick notebook that has been assembled with all kinds of county political data. Rep. Randy Hothead (R-Dixfield) discussed his work on behalf of veterans. Rep. Swain Millett (R-Waterford) reported on the ongoing budget deliberations in Augusta.

The next meeting was set for Tuesday, April 8, at the Oxford Advent Christian Church on

Route 26 just south of Wal-Mart with a 5:30 p.m. social hour, 6:30 dinner and 7:30 meeting. The speaker will be Kim Pettingill, secretary of the Republican State Committee, who will speak on “”Getting Ready for the Next Election.”” All area Republicans are invited.
