AUBURN — Auburn Superintendent of Schools Barbara Eretzian was the executive-in-residence at Central Maine Technical College recently.

During her day on campus, Eretzian met with students in the college’s early childhood education program. She led a discussion about what it means to prepare a child to enter school as a kindergartner. In addition she gave the students some advice about their own career development.

“You never know what you’ll end up doing,” she said, citing her own career path from classroom teacher to principal, assistant superintendent and her current position, which she has held since 1994.

Eretzian also met with key administrators, including the staff of the admissions office and talked about the relationship between the public schools and CMTC. She noted that as the college has offered programs that allow students to explore their educational options before selecting a career, CMTC has become a more attractive choice for Edward Little High School students thinking about beginning a college career. “We have always had a wonderful connection with CMTC,” she said. “We intend to continue to build on that relationship,” said Scott Knapp, college president.

Eretzian has worked in the Auburn School System since she graduated from the University of Maine in 1973. She holds a bachelor of science in elementary education, a master of education in educational administration from the University of Southern Maine and is enrolled in the PhD program in educational leadership at the University of Maine.
