JAY – The first meeting of the Tri-Town Parade Committee will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Frank L. Mitchell Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, according to Chairman Earl Howard.

Follow-up sessions to plan the Independence Day parade on July 3 will be May 22, June 12 and June 26, all at the same time and place.

Everyone is welcome to take part in the parade and in its planning, Howard said. He may be reached at 897-5985 for more information. A tentative lineup has been compiled with ample room for additional units, he said.

Howard said he’s elated to have a commitment from the Maine Army National Guard for an appearance by the Guard’s 195th Army Band in next year’s parade. Lt. Col. John Jansen explained that the band is scheduled far in advance and that it cannot appear this year.

Related plans for this year include a chicken barbecue prepared by the VFW, the parade, and then a dance following at the post home with Steve and the Good Ole Boys.

The committee is accepting donations to help with parade expenses and has named a three-man board of directors to oversee the finances. They are Erlon Rose, Bernard Gray and Donald Woods.

Assisting Howard on the committee are Lynn Dunton as treasurer and Bernard Gray as secretary.
