MEXICO – Additional charges were brought against a 17-year-old Rumford boy initially arrested Saturday by Rumford police and charged with stealing a taxi.
Officer Mike Richard charged the boy with burglary and theft after responding to a 3:40 a.m. call of a burglar at the University of Maine Rumford-Mexico Center on Brown Street, said Chief James Theriault.
Theriault said $40 taken from cans and vending machines at the college, along with a tire iron used to damage the machines and a back door, were found by Rumford officer Daniel Garbarini.
Garbarini, who was investigating the stolen taxi report and break-in, spotted the youth driving the Courtesy Cab on Franklin Street, stopped and arrested him, Rumford police said. The stolen goods and tire iron were inside the taxi.
