FARMINGTON – Dr. Eldon Franz of Washington State University will be at the University of Maine at Farmington from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10, to give a presentation to the general community on: “Biodiversity, Ecological Values and the Vivantary Imperative.”
Franz will speak in Thomas Auditorium, Preble Hall.
He has been instrumental in developing ecology programs with the Far Eastern State University in Vladivostok, Russia, and with the University of Chile in Santiago. He directs the ES/RP Peace Corps Internationalist Program and is an associate editor of Northwest Science. He has been a fellow at the International Center for Research in agroforestry in Nairobi, Kenya, and a Charles Bullard Fellow at Harvard University.
Current work includes studies of ecosystem development on the pumice plains of Mount St. Helens, nitrogen effects on crop/pest system responses to elevated carbon dioxide, carbon sequestration by soils, and the role of ecology and ecological values in environmental policy.
Franz is currently exhibiting a photographic exhibit on trees at the Devaney, Doak and Garrett Booksellers in downtown Farmington.
