AUBURN – The spring meeting of the Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the society’s Fr. Leo Begin Library at the Great Falls School.
Speaker will be Doris Provencher Faucher, author of “Le Quebecois: The Virgin Forest” and “The Rapids,” historical novels depicting the French presence in North America beginning in the 17th century.
Faucher will speak about the research involved in creating the novels and several more novels she intends to add to the series. Copies will be available.
Lenten services
POLAND – Poland Community Church interim pastor, the Rev. Greg Thomas, announces Lenten services:
Palm Sunday, April 13, 9:30 a.m.; Maundy Thursday, April 17, potluck supper and service; Good Friday, April 18, 2 to 3:15 p.m.; Easter sunrise service, April 20, followed by breakfast, and Easter worship at 9:30 p.m.
A church food bank fund-raiser will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the Fellowship Hall, 1212 Maine St. Proceeds from table sales and a chowder and sandwich lunch will go to the food bank.
There has been an increase in food box recipients from the towns the bank helps – New Gloucester, Minot, Mechanic Falls, Poland and Oxford.
Plan supper
AUBURN – Twin Cities for One Maine will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Auburn Police Station community room to plan a spaghetti dinner fund-raiser for Millinocket area residents. Anyone wishing to assist is invited to attend.
The dinner will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Hasty Community Center, 48 Pettengill Park. Tickets will be $5.

Remember When
NEW GLOUCESTER – The Remember When Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Amvets Hall. Italian sandwiches will be served for lunch, and a raffle will be held. The club met April 1 for a baked beans and franks lunch. Alta Giasson and Yvette Mercier. The Rev. David Glusker of First Radio Parish was speaker.
Seniors dinner
AUBURN – The First Auburn Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Hasty Community Center, Pettengill Park. Members should bring their cups and table utensils for a lasagna dinner. Bingo will follow.
Tickets will be on sale for the anniversary dinner on May 7 at the Martindale Country Club.
The monthly brunch will be held on Thursday, April 17, at the Hasty Community Center and all members are invited for 9:45 a.m. Pat Edwards is coordinating a lunch at Julien’s Restaurant in Gray on Thursday, April 24. Contact her for the menu and registration. Gerry Brushwein is assisting her.
The club met on April 2 with 76 members present. Charlotte Witten and Philip Fyfe were welcomed as new members. Those having birthdays were honored with the singing of “The Birthday Song” accompanied by Ginny Gagne on the piano. Bernice Parks substituted as chaplain for M.E. Allen.
Bea Everett and William Ellery were attendance winners and Glenys Ryder, Gerry Brushwein and Wesley Ryder won the pot of gold. Bingo was played after lunch.
Society speaker
POLAND – The Poland Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Poland Community Church vestry, Poland Corner. Speaker will be Mary Groves on “Sow Your Seeds.”
Groves has worked for the Pine Tree Seed Co. of New Gloucester for 15 years.

Seniors meal
AUBURN – New Auburn Seniors will have a ham dinner at noon Wednesday, April 16, at the St. Louis Parish Hall. Cost is $3. It is for members only.
A meeting was held April 2 when birthdays for the month were observed. Pot of gold winners were Connie Laverdiere, Edna Michaud, Normand Beaucage and Lucienne Hamel. New members Ronald and Jackie Drapeau, Rita Morin and Norman Lizotte were welcomed.
The next meeting has been changed from May 7 to 14 as many officers will be away. Bingo followed a light lunch.
Crime watch
MINOT – A Neighborhood Crime Watch meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Minot Consolidated School. There will be speakers from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department and the Maine State Police.
Stevens club
LEWISTON – The Stevens Life Members Club, Telephone Pioneers, will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Ramada Inn. Fellowship at 11 a.m. will be followed by lunch at noon and a business meeting. Members and guests are asked to bring nonperishable food or monetary donations.

NEW GLOUCESTER – The New Gloucester Historical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at the Meetinghouse, 389 Intervale Road. Kristen Crean, executive director of the Tate House Museum in Portland, will discuss the museum. A short meeting will be held first followed by refreshments. All are welcome.
