CMMC is looking for new recruits.

LEWISTON — The Central Maine Medical Center Volunteer Services Department is recruiting new volunteers.

CMMC Volunteers Director Susan Bowie said the medical center is hoping to enlist another 20 or more adult volunteers to assist with expanded duties that will arise when the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute opens this month.

“We have experienced a significant increase in requests for volunteer assistance from all parts of CMMC,” Bowie said. “Once the heart program opens, we foresee another surge in demand for volunteer help.”

Bowie said volunteers serve in a wide variety of roles. Some commit only a few hours a week while others work virtually full-time. “There is no typical volunteer,” Bowie said, “although a common denominator amongst most volunteers is the enjoyment they get from working with and helping others.”

The usual process for becoming a volunteer involves completing an application and interview. Those interested in learning about volunteering may call Bowie at 795-2472 between 8:30 a.m. and

4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
