TURNER — Leavitt Area High School will sponsor an American Red Cross blood drive from 7:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in the auxiliary gym.
The increased blood usage and decrease in the number of blood donors are causing more and more blood shortages. While the Red Cross is meeting hospital needs, the normal surplus the Red Cross maintains needs to be replenished.
Blood donors can give the gift of life every eight weeks or six times yearly and the Red Cross needs people to give blood often. A recent poll revealed that, on average, Americans tend to overestimate the availability of blood and underestimate its need.
To be eligible to give blood, a person must be at least 17 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, have not donated blood within the past 56 days and be feeling well the day of donation. There is no upper age limit and most medications are acceptable.
For more information or to schedule an appointment to donate, contact Sharon Hathaway at 225-3533 or the American Red Cross at 1-800-482-0743. Walk-ins are welcome; however, appointments are preferred.
