WESTBROOK — “A New Season to Help End Hunger in Maine” was the message being conveyed by the Maine Credit Union League’s Social Responsibility Committee at a special event marking the spring’s impending arrival on March 18 at headquarters.
The Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger presented a $10,000 check to JoAnn Pike, Good Shepherd Food-Bank executive director, to celebrate. Two credit unions from the Lewiston/Auburn area have representatives on the committee — Community CU and Maine Family FCU.
The food bank, headquartered in Auburn, is the primary source of food for nearly all of Maine’s hunger organizations through its various distribution centers and services.
The donation came at a time when Good Shepherd had to provide additional resources to the Katahdin region and other areas crippled with economic events and a difficult winter.
