AUBURN — The Capt. Frank W. Hulett Post 1603, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will hold the annual Easter ham raffle on Friday, April 11, at the post home, 588 Minot Ave..

The raffle will begin at 7 p.m. There will be hams and other Easter items along with a family dinner basket. A ham will also be awarded as a door prize. The event is open to members and guests.

There will be about 25 chances through the evening to win. The affair usually takes about an hour and a half and has been one of the major fund-raisers for youth activities.

Commander Arthur J. Roy said, “This is one of our biggest weeks of the year, as this is also the week we elect our officers for the coming year, 2003-2004.”

The VFW year will start at the conclusion of the annual state convention, the 83rd, on June 13 and 15 at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston.

A highlight will be the election and installation of Rosemarie Lane, past commander of the Lisbon VFW 9459 and the first female to be elevated to the highest position in the Maine VFW.

The Auburn VFW will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9,at the post home. Officers to be elected are the commander, senior vice commander, junior vice commander quartermaster, chaplain, judge advocate, trustee three years and the surgeon.

Members are reminded that they must be present to vote, and members interested in any of the offices, but unable to attend, must have a written statement to the adjutant prior to the election that he/she will accept the position and is fully able to carry out the responsibilities of that office.

Plans will also be made for the Buddy Poppy Drive to be held at the Wal-mart on Memorial weekend, May 24 and 25; the flagging of veterans’ graves in Auburn on May 24; and possibility of a color guard for the Memorial Day parade in Lewiston on May 26.
