MVC Boys’ Overview
Chasing the same school year after year is getting to be old news in the MVC boys’ race, but it looks as though Madison, according to most conference coaches, will again be the team to chase this season.
The biggest story in the MVC seems to be the lower number of boys on many teams. Schools like Dirigo, Livermore Falls and Winthrop have seen numbers fall off, and while both schools have a few talented athletes, scoring at bigger meets will be a problem.
Lisbon is the aberration in the group in the numbers game. The Greyhounds have actually gained numbers this season. With several of the newcomers younger, the future bodes well at Lisbon.
Telstar will be strong in the sprints and in throwing, while Jay will look to keep afloat in the conference.
Mountain Valley is the sleeper here, with numbers pushing 30 and a few athletes with immense experience. It should, by season’s end, give Madison a good run for the conference title.

mvc girls’ overview
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Despite having a new look this year, the Winthrop girls are the favorite of many MVC coaches to once again rule on the track, in the pits and on the fields. According to the coaches at Winthrop, the team is younger and will probably take a bit longer to jell, but once that happens, the Ramblers should again contend for the conference and state titles.
Normally, the next team to mention would be Lisbon. Unfortunately for the Greyhounds, the numbers aren’t adding up this season. The team is a bit smaller then normal and there are no superstars to anchor this season’s squad. Nevertheless, the team should be good enough for a top five finish in the conference.
The Mountain Valley and Livermore Falls girls are also expected to be in the hunt this season. The Andies have strength in the middle distances and will flood those events. At 15 athletes, they should be in contention all year.
Jay has new coaches, but many of the key athletes from last year’s team return, which should bode well for this season.
Telstar lost several key runners, and has a very young team. The Rebels will be OK once the younger athletes get some experience.
Looking for a sleeper? Try Dirigo. With close to 20 athletes spread out in several different events, the Cougars will be a team to contend with.
