I would like to share some opinions I have in response to your April 14 editorial regarding cigarette smoking.
Though it is true that the restaurant industry seems to have survived the smoking ban, I am quite certain the adult entertainment industry will not.
I would be willing to bet that a vast majority of the adults who attend these facilities are indeed smokers. A smoker drinking alcohol is not going to go somewhere where he or she can’t smoke. Couple that with the fact that you will spend a lot less money drinking in the privacy of your own home and you’ve now lost enough business to file bankruptcy.
As previously stated, restaurants are still doing great but I am sure they have seen a decline in the amount of time customers stay after eating, which is probably great for restaurants. But, when bar owners start seeing the same decline in their businesses, you can probably say goodbye to your favorite night spot.
If this law passes no one will have to worry about offensive cigarette smoke while enjoying favorite weekend activities – Karaoke, dancing, live entertainment, etc. – because there won’t be any place to enjoy them.
A plus to all of this is that with all the money we will save by not having a bar tab every weekend, we will be able to purchase equipment to supply our own forms of entertainment.
That is, of course, unless the boredom drives people to take up smoking.
