Driver course
MEXICO – The AARP 55 ALIVE Driver Safety Program will be held May 7 and 8 at Oxford Federal Credit Union. The refresher course is geared especially to drivers 50 and older. It is being conducted in the Joseph A. Poirier Training Room at the credit Union, 225 River Road in Mexico. Drivers will meet from 8 a.m. to noon both days to complete the eight-hour course.
May 8 is AARP’s National Day of Service, and AARP service workers all over the world will be conducting courses and providing service to their members.
The course includes such topics as: how to adjust for changes in vision, hearing and reaction time; how to handle road challenges, aggressive drivers, and right of way; using new anti-lock brakes, air bags and safety belts; assessing your own and others’ driving abilities.
The course fee is $10, and graduates receive a certificate of completion. In Maine, this certificate qualifies drivers for an automobile insurance discount and provides their insurance carrier with a certificate of completion.
To reserve space in this course, phone the receptionist at Oxford Federal Credit Union, Mexico, at (207) 369-9976. For more information about the AARP 55 ALIVE courses phone 1-888-227-7669.
