Dear Sun Spots: Thanks for all your help. The Salvation Army in Portland holds a fabric sale every spring. Could you tell me where and when it will be this year? Thank you. – No Name, Lewiston.
Answer: In addition to responses from readers, the Salvation Army will hold its fabric sale at the Elks Lodge at 1945 Congress St., (by the Portland Jetport entrance) on May 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You should plan on arriving early as it is a popular event and lines form early.
Dear Sun Spots: I have two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses that are in need of repair or replacement. Could you please help me with an address or phone number that I could contact? Any information would help. – Kate from Lewiston.
Answer: According to visionsunglasses.com, Ray-Ban Warranty (North America) warrants these sunglasses against breakage due to defects in material and workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. Scratched lenses are considered normal wear and are not covered under warranty. If service is required, send the sunglasses with proof of date purchased, postage paid and insured to: Ray-Ban Sun Optics Inc., P.O. Box 304 Roslyn, N.Y. 11576. Please make sure you include a nonrefundable processing fee of $10, plus your local tax with your sunglasses and your name, return address and a brief description of the defect or damage. If the sunglasses are returned within the warranty period, and Ray-Ban finds that the breakage was due to a defect in material or workmanship, the sunglasses will be repaired or replaced at the company’s option and returned to the sender.

• To Jose S. of Rangeley, seeking Raised Doughnut recipes: Sun Spots would also like to offer this recipe from www.cooks.com. Baked Raised Doughnuts: Ingredients: 1½ cups milk, ¼ cup shortening, ¼ cup sugar, 2 teaspoons salt, 2 teaspoons nutmeg, 4¾ cups sifted flour, 2 large well-beaten eggs and 2 yeast cakes, dissolved in ¼ cup of lukewarm water. Method: In a large saucepan bring the milk to a boiling point. Remove from the heat and stir in the shortening, sugar, salt and nutmeg. When lukewarm, add the flour, well-beaten eggs and dissolved yeast cakes. Beat dough until well-mixed.
Cover pan and let stand in a slightly warm place until dough is light and double in bulk, about 60 minutes. Turn dough onto a well-floured board, turning two to three times to form a stiff ball. Roll lightly (avoid stretching) until about ½-inch thick. Cut with a 3-inch cutter. Place rings carefully two inches apart on greased baking sheets. Brush rings with butter and let rise in warm place until double in bulk (about 20 minutes). Bake at 425 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown. As soon as doughnuts are removed from oven, brush again with butter and roll in granulated sugar. Makes 2½ to 3 dozen.
