PHILLIPS – The Phillips Men’s Club will meet at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the Community House. This will be a Ladies Night. Team 1 serves, with Capt. Scott Adams and members Bob Thomas, Elwood Allen, Bob Beal, Chuck Boyer, Bob Childs and Leon Ross.

Islam talk

FARMINGTON – A talk, “Islam – A Global Perspective,” will be given by Chambliss Neil, a doctoral candidate at MIT in political science, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, in Room 217, of Ricker’s Addition at the University of Maine at Farmington. Neil will discuss the varieties of Islam abroad and in the United States, explain the five pillars of Islam and compare Islam to American belief systems. She will also address what Islam really teaches, whether it is a threat to American beliefs and the relationship between terrorism and Islam. The talk is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the UMF Diversity Committee.

Anson bridge work

ANSON – Bridge maintenance workers from the Maine Department of Transportation will begin repairs this week to the Robert Garland Bridge, carrying U.S. Route 201A and Maine Route 16 over the Carrabassett River. There will be alternating one-way traffic across the bridge once the project gets going. The work includes repairing deteriorating abutment walls, fixing expansion joints and replacing the surface with a new concrete surface.

Masons to meet

FARMINGTON – Maine Lodge No. 20 will have a regular meeting Monday, May 5, at the lodge on Main Street. A supper is planned for 6:30 p.m. with the business meeting to follow at 7:30 p.m. with degrees. All who are master Masons are invited to attend.

Jumble sale

PHILLIPS – The Phillips Shared Ministry Women are having their annual Jumble Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Phillips Community Building. New and used items, as well as bake d goods and candy will be available for sale. All are welcome. Items may be dropped off for the sale at 8 a.m. Friday, May 2, at the Community Building.
