On February 27, approximately 30 school administrators from China visited Lewiston Regional Technical Center and Lewiston High School. These observant visitors, school principals and assistant principals from technical schools in the Beijing area, were amazed at the quality of work produced by LRTC students. Through interpreters, we were deluged with questions: “Are these really high school students?” “Do all students have these opportunities?” “Who pays for training?” “Are all graduates guaranteed a job?” “How competitive are these programs for students?” It was a wonderful dialogue-people from western culture and eastern culture talking together about education.
The Chinese delegation was respectful, open, and curious. They took pictures in every classroom and were very friendly with our students. Our students, who eagerly posed for pictures, now adorn picture albums in Beijing homes. We gave a commemorative LRTC shirt to each of our new friends.
