1917 – 2003

LEWISTON – Irene L. Chasse, 86, of Lewiston died Wednesday, May 14, at her daughter Arline’s home.

Born in New Brunswick, Canada, May 11, 1917, the daughter of Olivier and Sophie Daigle Levesque. She was educated at St. Anne’s School. Mrs. Chasse was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Lewiston Senior Citizens and was an avid bingo player, gardener, and enjoyed traveling.

She married Josephat Chasse on Aug. 19, 1936 at St. Bruno’s Church in Van Buren.

She was a very devoted and dedicated mother and was an excellent cook. She owned and operated a variety store on Lincoln Street, and worked in various shoe shops in Lewiston and Auburn. Prior to her retiring, she owned and operated a roomimg house for nine years.

She is survived by four daughters and husbands, Claudette and Donat Tremblay, Doris and Jim Daughdrill, Lorraine and Ralph Sawyer and Arline and Gabriel Laliberte; two sons, Reynold Chasse and his companion Crystal, Clarence Chasse and his wife Verna; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four sisters and their husbands, Cecile Bouchard, Agnes Dubois, Jeannette and Roland Lemerise, Germaine and Raymond Dube; and three brothers, Robert, Joseph and Conrad.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Regina Sprague, Yvette Ouellette and Rita Jacques; four brothers, Armand, Camille, Omer and Lionel Levesque; one infant son, Donald; and one great-grandson, Nicholas Bailey.
