JAY – Josh Armandi tossed a two-hitter and struck out seven as Jay nipped Livermore Falls 2-1.

Jacob Farrington singled in Matt Purrington in the bottom of the fouth inning to give the Tigers (8-4) a 2-0 lead. The hit proved to be the game-winner as Armandi (5-0) handcuffed the Andies hitters. Armandi helped his own cause with two singles.

Pitcher Todd Cote of Livermore Falls (8-4) surrendered six hits.

Monmouth 10,

Georges Valley 9

MONMOUTH – Josh Stroup blasted a grand slam in the bottom of the second inning to give Monmouth a 5-0 lead over Georges Valley and the Mustangs held on despite a bevy of errors to defeat the Buccaneers 10-9 in MVC baseball action Monday.

Stroup was also the pitcher of record for Monmouth, striking out nine while tossing a five-hitter to earn the win. Ben Cloutier and Brian Gardner each blasted a single and a double for the Mustangs (7-4) to pace the offense.

Brian Berube launched a home run for the Buccaneers (4-7), who scored two in the seventh inning before finally bowing to Stroup.

Gray-New Gloucestor 6, Falmouth 2

GRAY – Jesse Huff struck out 11 batters and gave up only one hit as Gray-New Gloucestor defeated Falmouth 6-2.

Eight of the last nine outs were strikeouts. The Patriots (8-5) were led by Louie Bernadini who hit a double in the third inning and would later score on a fielders’ choice. Joe Brzowski scored three runs for the Gray-New Gloucestor.

Nick Babikian smacked an RBI single to left in the first inning to lead the Falmouth (5-8) effort.

Brunswick 4, Leavitt 3

TURNER – Brunswick’s Dustin Zubrod (3-2) struck out six batters, and had the only RBI of the game as Brunswick narrowly defeated Leavitt 4-3.

All of Brunswick’s five hits were singles but were enough to lead the Dragons to their fourth victory of the season.

Leavitt (5-10) was paced by David Hopkins and Chad Schrepper, who each had doubles.

NYA 5, St. Dom’s 2

AUBURN – North Yarmouth Academy remained undefeated and handed St. Dom’s its first loss of the season with a 5-2 verdict Monday afternoon.

Tom Deluca struck out only three batters, but kept the hitters off-balance. Luke Welch and Dan Bartlett hit back to back doubles in the fifth inning, with Bartlett’s bringing in two runs. Brett White had two hits, while Matt Curran had two hits, including a double, and scored three runs for NYA (13-0).

Jake Albert and Ian Pullen had the two hits for the Saints. Albert smacked a double, while Pullen hit an RBI single to bring in Albert in the third inning.

Buckfield 5, Richmond 0

BUCKFIELD – Brandon Harvey walked three times, stole four bases and scored two runs to lead Buckfield to a 5-0 win over Richmond in EWC baseball action Monday.

Steve Abbott hit an RBI single. Scott Wetherall collected eight strikeouts, while allowing three hits for the Bucks (11-2) win.

The Lakers (9-3) were led Jason Carlson’s two singles.

Dirigo 7, Mt. Abram 1

SALEM – Brandon Berry fanned 10 batters to record his third victory as Dirigo cruised to a 7-1 triumph over Mt. Abram in MVC baseball action Monday.

Matt Brown executed a suicide squeeze for the second run of the fourth inning for the Cougars (8-4), plating Gracey with the eventual game-winner. Dirigo cushioned its lead with three additional runs in the seventh.

Billy Perkins scored the only Roadrunner run in the fifth frame.

Telstar 2, Boothbay 1

BETHEL – Telstar’s Peter Poor smashed a home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Telstar a 2-1 victory over Boothbay.

Telstar pitcher Kasey Fleet (2-1) struck out four.

Boothbay’s pitchers Will Carroll and Max Arsenault combined for 12 strikeouts.

Oxford Hills 6, Morse 1

BATH – Matt McDonnell hit an RBI double in the seventh to lead Oxford Hills to a 6-1 win over Morse Monday.

Joe Baker and Corey Tielinen each had two hits and two RBIs apiece for the Vikings (13-2). Garrett Olson chipped in with two hits as well.

Morse (3-11) was led by Anthony Ames with an RBI double in the third. Chuck Reece had two hits for the Shipbuilders.

Winthrop 6, Wiscasset 5

WINTHROP – Matt Brewer smacked a double in the seventh inning as Winthrop snuck past Wiscasset 6-5 in MVC baseball action Monday.

Winthrop (5-5) was led by Dustin Harrington with three hits and an RBI. Ian McCarthy chipped in with two hits, two runs and an RBI. Travis Hasenfus added two hits and two runs.

Wiscasset (4-6) was led by Bob Sawyer and Devin Webber with two hits each.

Mtn. Valley 10, Carrabec 0

NORTH ANSON – Ben Madigan ripped a solo-home run in the sixth inning to lead Mountain Valley to a 10-0 win over winless Carrabec Monday afternoon.

Korey Staires smacked a two-run double in the fourth inning for the Falcons (7-3). Greg Gallant chipped in with two hits.

Carrabec fells to 0-9.

Lacrosse
Cony 17, Oak Hill 2

WALES – Chris Gay had four goals and added two assists to lead Cony to a 17-2 rout of Oak Hill in boys’ lacrosse action Monday.

Joe Jones, Alan Godhammer and Chris Vadron all added mutiple goals for the Rams and Joel Dumont made seven saves to record the win.

Adam Buckingham and Joey Hinckley scored the two goals for the Raiders, both coming in the first half.
