BERLIN, N.H. – The Great North Woods Gardeners are preparing for their third annual Lilac Festival to be held, rain or shine, on the Brown Co. House lawn at the Northern Forest Heritage Park on May 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be music playing while people stroll through the garden. Local artisans will be at work creating craft items. A raffle will feature a pair of Adirondack chairs as well gardening supplies.
A special feature will be a plant clinic, conducted by Steve Turaj, Coos County Extension agent, at 10:30 a.m. He will also take visitors on a walk through the garden. At 12:30 master gardener Faye Nolan will hold a workshop for children. The perennial swap will take place throughout the day. Perennials can be brought from home. They can also be purchased for a dollar each if people don’t any of your own to swap.
In conjunction with the Lilac Festival, the Northern Forest Heritage Park will be hosting an open house on the same day to showcase their new exhibit: “Berlin and Brown Co.: the Heart of the Working Forest.”
The Northern Forest Heritage Park is on the Androscoggin River, three quarters of a mile from downtown Berlin, at 961 Main St. (Route 16). The park is a nonprofit organization with a commitment to tell the stories of the working forest and to celebrate the region’s diverse cultural heritage.
