BETHEL – Oxford County Democrats met on May 15 at Telstar Regional High School beginning with a potluck supper at 5:30. Andrea Quaid of Rep. Mike Michauds staff was the speaker and reported on the important committee assignments Michaud has received.
The assignments include the committees on transportation, veterans and small business, with an appointment as ranking member on the Veterans Benefits sub-committee.
Michaud has made several trips to Oxford County recently including a meeting in Hiram, a tour of the Stephens Memorial Hospital expansion project, and the runway celebration event at the Bethel Regional Airport. He will be attending the spaghetti supper fund-raiser for Joe Derouche on May 30 at the Eagles Hall in Rumford.
State committee members India Haynes of Waterford and Cathy Newell of Greenwood reported on the recent retreat and meeting. Resumes were shared for the two individuals, Barbara Burt and Dorothy Melanson, who are seeking election as state party chairperson.
Updates on voter file work, upcoming events, redistricting and fund-raising were given. Information is being received regarding appearances by the contenders for the Democratic party nomination for president in nearby New Hampshire towns. Sen. John Edwards will be in North Conway on May 23, and Howard Dean will be there on May 25.
