SABATTUS – Lt. Chris Morin has been voted Firefighter of the Year for 2002 by the members of the Sabattus Fire Department.
Morin, who first joined the department as a junior firefighter, has been a full member since 1993. He has served in several capacities, both as an officer and as a fund-raising leader. Morin also received an award for answering the most calls for 2002.
Harry S. Dixon was awarded a plaque of appreciation for his 50 years of dedicated service to the department. Dixon, who recently moved to Lewiston, first volunteered in 1953.
He also served the town for many years as the civil defense director, more recently known as director of emergency management. Dixon received a round of applause for his half century of service.
Brothers Dan and George Merrill were given plaques for 25 years of service. Both began as junior firefighters when their father, Alton, was answering the calls.
Others receiving awards were Chief Bob Scott, training and meeting attendance; Mike Laliberte, Jon Mennealy, Dan Merrill and Morin, meeting attendance.
