LITCHFIELD- A Memorial Day parade and ceremony, sponsored by the William R. Bold Post 181, American Legion, will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, May 26.

The parade will form at the Central Fire Station on the Hallowell-Litchfield Road and will proceed down the Plains Road to the Veterans Memorial Monument at the Plains Cemetery.

In the event of inclement weather the ceremony will be held at the Carrie Ricker Middle School gym on Route 197.

The Memorial Day message will be delivered by Lt. Chris Cosby, U.S. Navy. Cosby is stationed at the Brunswick Naval Air Station and is a P3 Orion pilot. All school children of Litchfield are invited to march in the parade and will be guided by the Legion Auxiliary.

The Legionnaires are responsible for the placement of the U.S. flags at the gravesites of all known veterans of Litchfield and surrounding areas.

Post Commander Wayne Hatch invites all residents of Litchfield to attend the traditional ceremony. Hatch also invites all veterans to be part of the parade and ceremony whether or not they are a member of the American Legion. Hatch can be reached at 582-6404 for any additional information.
