LEWISTON – A certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting has been awarded to the city of Lewiston. It was given by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada in regard to Lewiston’s comprehensive annual financial report.
The association is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 14,000 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
Heather Hunter, the city’s deputy finance director, was the recipient of the certificate, as she was the individual primarily responsible for preparing the report.
“The certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment,” said association Technical Services Center Director Stephen Gauthier.
City Administrator Jim Bennett added, “Heather’s diligence in preparing this detailed report is another example of the professionalism and expertise that is regularly demonstrated by Lewiston’s employees. Indeed, Heather and the entire finance team are to be commended for the exemplary work that they consistently do, and the GFOA recognition is well deserved.”
Lewiston’s report was touted by the reviewing panel as meeting the program’s high standards to include demonstrating a “spirit of full disclosure” when communicating its financial picture.
