1912 – 2003
BUCKFIELD – Laura Briggs DeCoster, 90, of Back Bryant Road, died Tuesday, May 20, as a result of injuries of an automobile accident.
She was born in Buckfield on June 12, 1912, a daughter of Carleton and Matenah Hooper Briggs. She was educated in Buckfield schools and graduated from Farmington Teachers College. She was an elementary school teacher and taught in Maine and Vermont.
She returned to spend her later years on Back Bryant Road. Her long life, long good health and independence are a testament to the loving care of supportive neighbors, family and many friends. She was a former member of the Sumner Grange and also enjoyed gardening. She was also a member of the Jehova’s Witnesses of Norway Kingdom Hall. Her husband, Chester DeCoster, died in 1973.
Surviving are three sons, Carleton A. of Bristol, Vt., Clyde of New Gloucester, and Paul M. of Orlando, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Roy, Dwight, Ricky, Julie, Jenny, William, Sean and Mary; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Briggs; and a sister, Charlotte Quines.
