Saint Dominic Regional High School would like to publicly thank the Auburn Business Association for recognizing the achievements and standard of excellence of its Citizen of the Year 2003, John Emerson.
Without John’s personal generosity and commitment to service, the development of the new Saint Dominic Regional High School would probably be a dream not yet realized. His willingness to attend countless meetings and encourage countless others to meet his personal challenge will remain an inspiration to men and women of goodwill for generations.
John gave freely of his time, talent and treasure because the construction of a new Catholic high school was something that the young people in our community needed. To say that John is guided by the highest moral principles is an understatement.
What many do not know is that John was one of the earliest supporters of a new St. Dominic. When so many were indicating their opinions in the strongest negative terms and suggesting that a fine new campus would never happen and that the people of our community were insufficiently generous, John was already figuring out how many donations would be needed and how large the building would have to be.
Among John’s greatest strengths is his invincible faith in the people of Lewiston and Auburn. He insisted that outside consultants really did not know nor understand his neighbors. He demanded that others share his vision and his optimism and we are all the better for it.
