AUBURN – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society will hold its annual Strutt your Mutt Dog Walk and Pet Festival from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 7, at Railroad Park in Lewiston.

In addition to the Feline Foto Contest, dog baths, bake sale and raffles, this year’s event will also include canine agility demonstrations and a Blessing of the Animals, preformed by the Rev. Dr. Jodi Hayashida of the Unitarian Univeralist Church in Auburn.

All walkers are asked to collect pledges. The money received goes directly to the homeless, abandoned and abused animals for food, shelter, veterinary care and a chance at a new home. The society is encouraging businesses to pull together walking teams, and a special prize will be awarded to the business that raises the most money.

This is a “people” walk; dogs are welcome, but not necessary. Dogs must be leashed and have their current rabies vaccination.

Pledge sheets are available at the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce in Lewiston, the shelter and other local area businesses or on-line at www.gahumane.org.

The Humane Society, located at 3312 Hotel Road, is in the middle of a Capital Campaign to build a new shelter. If interested in helping to build a better shelter, call 786-4713. Anyone interested in volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal can visit the shelter or the above Web site.
