LEWISTON – Two members of the Lewiston Lodge of Elks 371 were recently recognized for ritual excellence by being selected for the All-District Ritual Team for the Maine Central District.

Only eight officers in the district are chosen for the honor. Roger Burbeula and Roger Fillion, both of Lewiston, were awarded plaques by District Deputy James Walton of Gardiner at a special ceremony held at the Augusta Elks Lodge.

The awards were presented to Burbeula and Fillion for their performance in the Elks initiation ritual. They were judged as the best esquire (Burbeula) and inner guard (Fillion) out of the seven lodges in the district.

The recipients were judged on their word accuracy, pronounciation, movements and impressiveness. The purpose of the competition is to reward lodge officers who take the time and effort to memorize and impressively perform their parts before a new member during the initiation ritual.
