LEWISTON – A Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the city of Lewiston. It was awarded to the city by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States & Canada in regards to Lewiston’s comprehensive annual financial report.

The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving approximately 14,000 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, Illinois and Washington, D.C.

Heather Hunter, the city’s deputy finance director, was the recipient of the certificate, as she was the individual primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning financial report.

“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment,” notes GFOA’s Technical Services Center Director Stephen Gauthier.

“Heather’s diligence in preparing this detailed report is another example of the professionalism and expertise that is regularly demonstrated by Lewiston’s employees. Indeed, Heather and the entire finance team are to be commended for the exemplary work that they consistently do, and the GFOA recognition is well deserved,” said City Administrator Jim Bennett.

The city of Lewiston’s report was touted by the reviewing panel as meeting the program’s high standards to include demonstrating a “spirit of full disclosure” when communicating its financial picture.
