WILTON – Kathleen Welch, PhD, joined Healthy Community Coalition as a senior evaluator, responsible for collecting and monitoring information about the community’s health status, and for helping HCC evaluate the effectiveness of its programs and services to improve health and well-being.
Welch’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in Russian language and literature and a master’s degree in foreign language education. She has taught English to students at Ohio State University and Moscow Linguistics University.
After teaching at Moscow Linguistics University, she worked in Russia managing population-based nutritional surveys for CARE. She then continued her education at the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, where she obtained a PhD.
Before coming to Maine, she worked as an epidemiologist for the Centers for Disease Control Adult Spectrum of HIV Disease Study in New Orleans and has published extensively in the areas of HIV/AIDS and nutritional epidemiology.
