RUMFORD – A Rumford man found himself unable to walk last Monday after the mo-ped he was riding on Lincoln Avenue rear-ended a stopped car, police said.
Jerry Chambers, 44, who complained of pain following the 12:22 p.m. wreck, was transported to Rumford Hospital by Med-Care Ambulance, said officer Daniel Garbarini.
“He couldn’t even walk,” Garbarini said.
Chambers was treated and released, a nursing supervisor said.
The wreck occurred when Matt Carrier, 18, stopped his car on Lincoln Avenue to turn into Rent-A-Center. He had to wait for a pedestrian, who was walking down the hill in the travel lane, Garbarini said.
At that point, Chambers, who was riding the mo-ped, “whacked into the back of the car and it shot him over the handlebars and into the back window,” Garbarini said.
Damage to the vehicles was minimal.
