LISBON FALLS – Seventy-five children from Yellow Bird Preschool hopped a total of 9,452 times during a Hop-N-Ing, raising $4,630.97 in support of Pine Tree Camp.
According to Peg Bauer of the preschool, Hop-N-Ing is much more than a fund-raiser. “By participating in Hop-N-Ing, we not only help Pine Tree Camp, but we also help the kids learn about disabilities,” she said.
Bauer designed a month-long program to coincide with Hop-N-Ing called “I’m Special, I’m Me.” The program teaches the children that some people have to use tools such as wheelchairs and crutches. “We all want to do the same things,” Bauer told the children, “we just have to do them differently.”
A number of preschools, nursery schools and day care centers throughout Maine participated in Hop-N-Ing in support of Pine Tree Camp, Pine Tree Society for Handicapped Children and Adults Inc. The fund-raiser is expected to raise $12,000, which goes to the camp’s campership fund.
