AUBURN – Three Auburn students won scholarships at the 10th annual New England District Oratorical Contest, sponsored by New England Optimist Clubs, in Manchester, N.H.
Joanna Hughes, first-place winner, received a $1,500 scholarship, Colton Jordan won a $1,000 scholarship and Moriah Churchill was the $500 scholarship winner. All three attend Auburn Middle School.
The topic was “United We Stand in Optimism.”
The Lewiston-Auburn Optimist Club sponsors the local contest each year and winners participate in the district competition. The contest is open to any student who has not reached age 16 prior to Jan. 1. For information on the contest or the L-A Optimist Club, call George Matthews at 783-5269 or 795-4085.
