Pitcher strikes out 15 batters, helps own cause with 5 hits

MADISON – Pitcher Brad Bryant struck out 15 and added a triple and home run to shoulder the load in Livermore Falls’ 12-1 win over Madison.

Bryant was perfect at the plate with five hits and also scored two runs. Mike Chamard went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs and Matt Brochu added a triple for the Andies (9-6).

Madison’s effort was led by Adam Huard, who went 2-for-3 and scored the lone run.

NYA 1, St. Dom’s 0

YARMOUTH – North Yarmouth Academy outran a St. Dom’s pick off attempt in the bottom of the ninth inning to slip away with a 1-0 win in WMC baseball action Tuesday.

The Saints (14-2) tallied eight hits, but couldn’t push a run across the plate through nine innings. The pitcher Ryan Turgeon and Ian Pullen each tagged the ball for a double.

With two outs and runners at the corners in the home half of the ninth, Turegon faked a throw to third and threw to the shortstop to encourage the runner to head home. The throw to the plate arrived on one hop, allowing the run to score.

Mt. Ararat 3, Oxford Hills 0

SOUTH PARIS – Mark Rogers (6-0) fired a one-hitter and struck out 13 to lead Mt. Ararat to a 3-0 victory over Oxford Hills in the KVAC playoffs.

Rogers helped the offense with a triple. Ethan Ogilby boasted a double in the third.

Mtn. Valley 1, Hall-Dale 0

RUMFORD – Jason McPherson scored when the catcher’s throw struck Mike Gionat as he ran to first, giving Mountain Valley a 1-0 victory over Hall-Dale.

The Falcons loaded the bases in the fifth and Gionat hit a ground ball back to pitcher Matt Shain. The Bulldogs recorded the force out at the plate, but the relay to first hit the runner and bounced away.

Dirigo 5, Winthrop 4

WINTHROP – Dirigo’s Corey Wing went 2-for-4 and scored two runs to push Dirigo for a 5-4 triumph over Winthrop.

Brandon Burry added two hits for the Cougars.

Dustin Harrington paced the Ramblers with two hits and two runs.

Gray-NG 4, Poland 0

POLAND – Louie Bernadini singled home Shane Corcoran, who had jump started the offense with a two-out double, in the first inning to pilot Gray-New Gloucester to a 4-0 win over Poland in WMC baseball action Tuesday.

Nick Berube wrapped up his high school career for Poland with an outstanding performance in the pitchers’ duel. He struck out 14 batters, walked one and gave up only two hits. The Knights (5-11) suffered the loss due to untimely defensive miscues.

Jesse Huff pitched a one-hit shutout for the Patriots (11-5).

Jay 5, Mt. Abram 4

JAY – Brandon Purrington provided two hits, including a crucial RBI in the fifth inning for the eventual game-winner, as Jay edged Mt. Abram 5-4.

Ryan DiPompo led off the Tigers’ fifth with an infield hit and moved over to third on an error. DiPompo then scored on a wild pitch.

The Roadrunners (3-12) made a valient last-inning attempt to rally from a five-run deficit, but came up one run short. Brandon Wheeler had a double.

Jacob Turner picked up his third win of the season, while Josh Armandi notched the save for Jay (9-5).
