PORTLAND (AP) – Home prices in Maine continued to soar last month while the number of sales dipped nearly 5 percent.
Maine’s Realtors sold 913 homes in April, down from 957 homes in the same month last year, according to the Maine Association of Realtors. The median sales price was $150,400, an increase of just over 11 percent.
Nationally, last month’s sales were the fifth highest ever recorded. Sales increased 3.2 percent and median home prices rose 6.8 percent, to $163,400.
With mortgage rates at a 40-year low, more people are investing in real estate instead of stocks and bonds.
