JAY – Police arrested a Farmington man, and two Jay teenagers were charged with burglary and theft following a car burglary spree at a paper mill Wednesday. Police from three departments tracked the suspects, who allegedly fled into nearby woods.

Jay police officer Michael Pike arrested Victor Oliver, 18, of Farmington. He and two 16-year-olds were charged with two counts each of burglary of a motor vehicle and theft after investigation of a rash of car burglaries at the Wausau-Mosinee Paper Corp. on Main Street, Jay police Chief Larry White Sr. said.

The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. Wednesday after police received a call from mill security that they were observing people milling around vehicles in the parking lot, White said.

When police arrived, the people fled on foot, heading north into some nearby woods, White said. Franklin County Sheriff’s Cpl. Nathan Bean and his tracking dog were called in along with Livermore Falls police to help locate the suspects.

Bean and the dog located one of the 16-year-olds hiding in some brush, White said.

Oliver and the other juvenile were located a short time later at a Jay residence, he said.

Police recovered more than $400 worth of compact discs as well as a pair of knives that had been taken in the burglaries, White said. Police are looking at the suspects in connection with some other recent vehicle burglaries in the Jay and Livermore Falls area, White said.

The chief also said that Oliver had a large knife with him when the crimes were committed.

Oliver remained at the Franklin County jail Wednesday on a probation hold. He is scheduled to appear July 24 in Farmington District Court. Information on the two boys will be forwarded to juvenile intake for prosecution.

White said one juvenile was being held in custody at a Charleston detention center and the other boy was released into parental custody.

White said apprehension of the suspects was due to Pike’s quick response and the team effort of Bean and the Livermore Falls officers.
