AUBURN – The Pine Tree State 4-H Foundation has awarded Natalie Keene of Auburn the 2003 Wayne Rich Post-Secondary Educational Scholarship of $1,000. Keene has been a 4-H’er for 13 years in the Canton Busy Workers 4-H Club and the Cumberland County All Star 4-H Dairy Club.

She has been selected as a member of the Eastern States Exposition Maine delegation for numerous years, placed fourth in the nation at the 2000 National Agricultural Public Speaking Competition and is valedictorian of her high school class.

Keene has been involved in Girl Scouts, basketball, track, drama and the United Methodist Church Youth Group. She plans to study dairy science and communications at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and has been accepted into the honors program.

The foundation also awarded Melissa Sessions of South Paris a Harold H. Brown International Travel Award of $1,000 for travel to the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Sessions is a 10th-grader at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. She has been a member of the 4-H Dalmations Club for 12 years and has been involved with 4-H Teen Exchange, Key Club, Respect Team, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the American Legion. While in Great Britian, Sessions will visit with a member of the British Parliament, see the Globe Theater and stay with host families in England and Ireland.

Keene and Sessions were recognized at the foundation’s annual meeting at the Spectacular Events Center in Bangor on May 6.

Each spring, the foundation awards seven or eight post-secondary educational scholarships to qualified 4-H’ers prior to entering college and four Harold H.
