MONMOUTH – The Golden Years Club will have its monthly meeting and potluck luncheon at the Packard Activity Center Wednesday, June 4. Following lunch Phyllis Hill will talk about the 200-year history of Monmouth Academy, which she has been compiling for the past couple of years. Hill is a past president of the Monmouth Academy trustees and served for many years as secretary of the Monmouth Academy Alumni Association.

Club cruise

LEWISTON – The Stanton Bird Club is sponsoring a bird-watching cruise to Monhegan Island on Saturday, June 7. The trip will be aboard the Hardy III out of New Harbor, leaving at 9 a.m. and returning at 3:15 p.m.

Participants can expect to see terns, seals, porpoise, gulls and guillemots on the way out. Once on Monhegan Island those going will hike in small groups with a leader to see unexpected late migration birds such as warblers, sparrows, finches and woodpeckers. A leader will also be available for wildflower identification.

Corporate meeting

AUBURN – Alden Gayton Post 31, American Legion, will hold the annual corporate meeting to elect officers on Monday, June 9, at the post home, 426 Washington St. Paul Choate, president, will preside.

Patriotic end

LISBON FALLS – A patriotic presentation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, June 9, at the Ridge One-Room Schoolhouse, Route 9. The fourth-grade students of Marilyn Curtis will present a year-end program.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on May 27 at the Multi-Purpose Center. North/South winners in Flight A were: first, Martine Begert and Rosemarie Goodwin; tied at second, Doressa Page and C. Perry with David Lock and Nancy Lindgren; Flight B, first, Roger Briggs and Lucille Bilodeau; second, Luke Merry and Claire Lyons.

East/West winners in Flight A were: first, Mary Leahey and Eleanor Abrahams; second, Bill Adams and Jim Flanagan; third, Larry Fortier and Terry Gendron; Flight B, first, Bill Adams and Jim Flanagan; second, Joanne Morris and Marta Clements.

Another game will be held at the center on Tuesday, June 3. A partner is guaranteed.

The club also met at Schooner Estates in Auburn on May 28. Winners in Flight A were: first, Fred Letourneau and Sherry Hinckley; tied at second, David Lock and Martine Begert with Paul Barber and Luke Merry; fourth, John Hackett and Ray Sirois; fifth, Bruce Murray and Lucille Theriault; Flight B: first, Roger Briggs and Claire Lyons; second, Jim Flanagan and Bill Adams.
