The academy is planning to move from leased space to the new campus.
POLAND – The Planning Board found Poland Spring Academy’s sketch plan to move modular classrooms to its new campus complete Tuesday night.
The private school can now move forward in the permitting process. The next step would be a site plan.
Code Enforcement Officer Arthur Dunlap said the private school also plans to construct a library building at the site on Bailey Hill Road near Harris Hill Road. It is part of a multiphased development, which will include several buildings over a period of time.
“They’ve been in before but the plan was a little too vague,” Dunlap said. “They have more plans, and they’ll come back later for their phase two expansion.”
He said the academy is planning to move from leased space at Poland Spring Health Institute to the new campus on land it recently purchased. The academy plans to eventually expand from about 100 to 300 students.
The board tabled the issue April 22 and requested the academy’s owner to obtain engineering work and to meet with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection about environmental regulations that may apply.
In other business, engineer Mark Gray, of JAMM Civil & Structural Engineering, of Poland, presented the town with a sketch plan review for reconstruction of the town garage, the sand and salt shed and the bus parking facility. The board approved the sketch plan. The project will go on to a formal application review.
Also appearing before the board was Phil Geelhoed, representing Maine Special Olympics, He presented a sketch plan for a storage building at the organization’s facilities on Lower Range Pond, which the board approved as complete.
In another matter, Mike Hotham presented a sketch plan for continuation of the Bailey Hill subdivision with 30 additional lots. The board members told him there was a good possibility it could be done.
