BOSTON – A daylong conference titled The New England Economy Amid Global Uncertainty will be held Thursday, June 5, at the Wyndham Westborough Hotel, Westborough, Mass.
The conference will provide a comprehensive analysis of current and future economic conditions locally, regionally and nationally. It will feature:
• New economic forecasts for the United States, the New England region and each of the six New England states.
• An analysis of the current U.S. economic outlook by Mark Zandi, chief economist of Economy.com.
• A keynote address by Michael S. Dukakis, former governor of Massachusetts and distinguished professor at Northeastern University.
• A panel discussion of how New England is faring – and will fare – in an age of uncertainty with: Karl (Chip) Case, Wellesley College professor of economics, on housing; Andrew Sum, director of Northeastern University’s Center for Labor Market Studies, on labor issues; and Bruce Blakey, corporate economist at Northeast Utilities Service Co., on energy.

Law school offers patent program
AUGUSTA – A seminar hosted by the Maine Patent Program of the University of Maine School of Law will be held Friday, June 6, at the Senator Inn on Western Avenue.
Building a Technology-Based Business: Patents, Business Planning & Product Commercialization will run from 9 a.m. to noon.
The seminar will feature Elizabeth Worley, patent attorney and fellow with the Maine Patent Program; Meriby Sweet, business counselor with the Maine Small Business Development Center; and John Karp, program manager with the Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
