LEWISTON – Lewiston Council 106, Knights of Columbus, 150 East Ave., will hold a benefit spagetti supper from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at the hall.
Proceeds will help the family of Denise Bowden, 38, a former Lewiston woman who was involved in a severe auto accident on April 26, 2002. Bowden was driving on Route 1 in Orland when a car pulled out of a side street. Bowden was unable to avoid the collision that flipped her vehicle over, spinning it around on its top into oncoming traffic where it was broadsided by a delivery truck.
Bowden was rushed to Eastern Maine Medical Center in critical condition and remained in a coma for six weeks with a multitude of injuries, the most serious a fractured skull. Bowden had to undergo operations to remove bone fragments from her brain. She had made slow but steady progress despite many setbacks. Bowden’s face is still partially paralyzed and her left hand does not function, but she has regained sight in her left eye and partial use of her left leg.
Recently Bowden’s feeding tube was removed, clearing another hurdle in her long road to recovery. In February Bowden was moved to Clover Health Care in Auburn and is being transported daily to Westside Rehabilitation in Lewiston. Bowden and her husband, David, lived in Surry at the time of the accident with their two children Nicole, 13, and Joshua, 9, who are being cared for by their aunt, Diane Clark. Bowden is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ouellette of Lewiston.
Tickets for the supper are $5 for adults and $2 for children 11 and under. Tickets may be purchased by calling Gerry Morin, 782-0354, Jean Couturier, 926-5640, or George Ouellette, 782-3662. Tickets will also be available at the door.
