LEWISTON – The Child Health Center will sponsor a bicycle rodeo from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at the Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St. The event is free and open to the public.
The rodeo will give children the opportunity to have a morning of bicycling fun and to learn safety rules on how to ride their bikes properly.
Roy’s Bicycle Shop will inspect bikes and the Lewiston-Auburn Optimist Club will donate two bicycles for a free raffle. Participants must wear their bike helmets, as required by law.
The Child Health Center’s ProtectME program will provide 100 free helmets to be distributed to those who need one, with funds from a grant from the Maine Bureau of Health’s Maine Injury Prevention Program. All helmets will be checked and fitted.
The rodeo will include an obstacle course conducted by the Lewiston High School Police Cadets. The rodeo is sponsored by the Lewiston-Auburn Optimist Club, Lewiston Multi-Purpose Center, CMMC’s Central Maine Institute for Injury Prevention, United Ambulance and the Lewiston Police Department. Additional free giveaways will be provided. For more information, call George Mathews at Pathways, 795-4085.
