BETHEL – The 24th annual Faye Taylor Memorial Art Show was held on May 24th at the Bethel Historical Society’s Regional History Center in the O’Neil Robinson House.

This year’s theme was the arrival of airplanes in the Bethel area in the 1920s, celebrating the centenary of the Wright Brothers success at Kitty Hawk in 1903 and the recent dedication of the Bethel Airport last month.

This year’s winners include in Division I (grades one and two: first, Buddy Williamson; grade two, Woodstock Elementary; second, Hannah Huston, grade two, Woodstock Elementary; third, Bronson Dean, grade one, Woodstock Elementary.

Division II (grades three and four): first, Josh Head, Crescent Park, grade three; second, Rickie Osgood, grade three, Woodstock Elementary; third, Victoria Forkus, grade four, Woodstock Elementary.

Division III (grades five and six): first, Carl Zurhorst, grade five, Andover Elementary; second, Ben Cross, grade six, Telstar Middle; third, Sarah Crampton, grade five, Crescent Park.

Special appreciation was extended to the judges this year: Tim Kavanagh, Grace McKivergan and Cathy Newell. Danna Nickerson coordinated the event assisted by Art Committee members Helen Morton and Jim MacGregor and volunteer Arlene Lowell.

The St. Never’s Day sale was also a success.

The Bethel Historical Society, founded in 1966, is dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting the regional past for present and future generations. Since 1974, the society has operated from its Broad Street headquarters, the Dr. Moses Mason House, a period house museum and research library. In 1999, it opened the O’Neil Robinson House (next door) to the public for an expanded exhibit program, museum shop space and administrative offices. Through the years, the society’s achievements have been recognized by a number of state and national organizations.
