LEWISTON – The Senior College Food for Thought luncheon lecture series program on Tuesday, June 10, at L/A College will feature Douglas Hodgkin, who will present a slide program on the historic homes of Lewiston and Auburn.
His comments will include social and economic history and information on the original residents. Hodgkin, recently retired professor of political science at Bates College, is a native of Lewiston and a well regarded expert on Maine politics. He serves on the Lewiston Historic Preservation Review Board.
The noon program cost is $5, which includes lunch. Call 753-6510 by Monday, June 9, for reservations.
Named to board
AUBURN – Michael Spaulding has been named to the board of directors for the Androscoggin Historical Society. He will serve as the society’s treasurer beginning June 1.
Spaulding is a member of several local organizations. He belongs to the Lewiston/Auburn Rotary, is an associate of Central Maine Medical Center and is on the advisory board of the Androscoggin Leadership Institute. He recently completed serving on the 2003 United Way Allocation Committee.
Spaulding is a partner in the firm of Austin Associates PA, CPAs, with offices in Auburn, Norway and Windham.
Receives award
AUBURN – Evelyn Brown, a tenant of Barker Arms, received the Community Service Award from the Amvets Post 6 Auxiliary in New Gloucester on May 31.
The award recognized her dedication in baking cookies (six varieties) and weekly delivery to the firefighters who man the three firehouses in Auburn.
Brown began baking after feeling that she should show her gratitude for the brave and selfless acts the men and women perform each day to save lives and protect others.
The tradition followed on the heels of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
