FARMINGTON – Loon Maine-ia 2003, a display of art loon sculptures can now be seen at the Wal-Mart store.
Barbara Hathaway, Loon Maine-ia 2003 coordinator, requested placement of two fiberglass loon sculptures at store to let the people see a preview of what is to happen this summer as the loans are placed around Wilton.
Two loon sculptures were placed at Wal-Mart, one at each entry. Joyce Dubay of New Vineyard painted one loon titled, “My Coat of Colors.” Dubay is sponsored by Scott Landry of Shiretown Agency. Dubay’s artwork reflects the American theme with red, white and blue, two eagles and the American rose.
Selina Shields of Farmington is sponsored by Bill and Jeanne Lambert. Shield created the G. H. Bass loon and depicts the Bass industry that took place at Wilton. The loon sculpture has a leather texture and implements used in making shoes. History is shown with faces of people who have worked at Bass Shoe.
These loon sculptures and many others will soon show up around Wilton and one at the Farmington and Wilton Chamber of Commerce at the Red School House on Route 2. Each loon sculpture needs a sponsor and a few more sponsors are needed. Anyone can be a sponsor and they do not need to be asked. Sponsorship can be one person or groups.
