DIXFIELD – “Friends” was the overall theme of the Senior’s Candlelight Service 2003 at Dirigo High School June 4. The banner hanging over the graduates proclaimed, “Life brings memories, smiles and tears. The smiles will fade. The tears will dry. The memories will last a lifetime.”
Natalie Keene, class valedictorian, brought the opening address. Her speech centered around the friendship she felt at Dirigo. She opened by saying, “Our graduation is a celebration recognizing the opportunities that lie ahead.”
The chorus’ rendition of “Was That My Life,”Jada Carter and Beth Holman’s, “Thank you,” and “Friends Forever” rendered by Shira Hanmer and Kelly Wing, continued the friend theme.
Kate Gaudet in her “Embracing the Future” speech said, “The love we have found will help us bridge into the future. We have found confidence, trust and loyalty at Dirigo. She quoted Mark Twain to have said, “You’ll be more disappointed in what you didn’t do than what you did do.”
After an emotional goodbye to her class of 2003, Class Advisor Tracy Hutchinson received a standing ovation from the graduates and parents.
Following “Dance” sung by Jeannine Murray, the top 10 students and honor society were recognized.
The Music Award was given to Josh Byron. Art Award went to Matt Brown. Natalie Keene was awarded the Science Award and the Social Studies award went to Monique Crawford. The World Language award was given to Alison Kerr and two English awards were given. The recipients were Natalie Keene and Jeremy Wilber.
The service concluded with the graduates marching out holding lighted candles.
