Headaches

LEWISTON – For women who suffer from headaches, finding methods to monitor, manage and treat headache pain is essential information.

St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center will host a national expert on headache management and treatment at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 10. Dr. Alan Rapoport will speak in the Fleet Community Room at St. Mary’s Women’s Health Pavilion. “Headache Management: Issues for Women” will examine the issue of headaches and suggest possible strategies for women to deal with the condition.

Grange election

WINTHROP – Winthrop Grange 209 will host Kennebec Pomona Grange 4 on Wednesday, June 11, at the Grange Hall, Old Lewiston Road. The hall is handicapped accessible.

Leslie Gilman is chairman of the 6:30 p.m. supper. A meeting of the Pomona Grange will convene at 7:30 p.m. with Worthy Master Valmore Dunn of Vienna presiding. There will be election of officers for the year.

BRUNSWICK – Mark Vinet, a native of Montreal, will speak at the Chamberlain Civil War Roundtable at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Brunswick Junior High School. He will discuss the Canadian connection to the war.

An awards ceremony will be held when the Joshua L. Chamberlain History Prize will be presented to Joel Witmer, a senior at Mount Ararat High School, and the Warren B. Randall Award will be given to William B. Jordan, Cape Elizabeth historian. Refreshments will follow. The public is invited.

Tasks of elders

LEWISTON – A free educational series on aging continues on Thursday, June 12, hosted by d’Youville Pavilion.

The series will explore “The Task of Elders.” Each life stage has its own set of tasks to complete in order to be ready for the next stage. This presentation will look at what elders must address to fully embrace this particular time of life. There will be stories, poetry, laughter and talking. Marguerite Stapleton, vice president of mission effectiveness at Sisters of Charity Health System, will facilitate.

The series is free and light refreshments will be served. The session will take place in the Resident Dining Room at d’Youville Pavilion from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Reservations are required by calling 777-4038.

Rotary speaker

LEWISTON – Jim Mahan of Vitalwork Inc. will speak at noon Thursday, June 12, before the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club at the Ramada Inn. He will discuss “Crucial Conversations,” based on the theory that an organization’s values, standards, systems and structures are directly related to its success.

Bible school

LEWISTON – Vacation Bible School will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 16 to 18, at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, 62 Strawberry Ave.

All area children, preschool through sixth grade, are invited to join to “Crack the Character Code of the Great Kingdom Caper” through Bible and missions studies. There will also be crafts and refreshments.

TOPSHAM – Hannaford Food and Drug store at the Topsham Fair Mall is holding a bottle drive to benefit the Coastal Humane Society during June. Those wishing may take returnable bottles and cans to Hannaford and have the money credited to the Humane Society. Groups are encouraged to collect bottles.
