1918 – 2003

PORTLAND – Evelyn B. Damon, 84, of North Yarmouth died Sunday, July 6, at Mercy Hospital in Portland.

She was born in Albany on Sept. 17, 1918, the daughter of Herman and Mildred Kelly Brown. She went to school in Albany.

She married William C. Damon on Oct. 22, 1932. She was a homemaker most of her life, raising five children, all of which were boys.

She worked at the shipyard in Portland during the early 1940s. She and her husband moved to Milford, Conn. in 1957, where she worked at Donahue Sales.

In 1975, William retired and they moved back to Maine, settling in North Yarmouth. She worked at Brentwood Manor in North Yarmouth until she retired at the age of 70 in 1988.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, William J. and his wife Beatrice of Norway, Natalie of North Yarmouth, Robert and his wife Rosalie of Auburn, James of North Yarmouth, and Jerry Lee and his wife Cathy of Milford, Conn.; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two brothers, Willard Brown of Norway, and Clyde Brown and his wife Vivian of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and a sister-in-law, Doris Brown of Bethel.

She was predeceased by her husband; a son, Fred; a brother, Everett Brown; three half brothers, Richard, Gardiner, and Gilbert Brown; and two half sisters, Beatrice Grover and Martha VonZintl.
