Apple Valley Babe Ruth 13-15 all-stars from the Winthrop, Monmouth, Litchfield area, won their first three games in the District 5 Tournament.
Apple Valley, coached by Dave Jordan, opened with a 4-0 victory over Houlton Thursday. Winning pitcher Ben Seefeldt scattered 7 hits, striking out 3. Sean Holbrook doubled and scored 2 runs. Tavis Hasenfus singled and crossed twice. Chris Brewer, Seefeldt, Shane Kibler and Kurt Knight all had an RBI single.
In an 8-inning thriller, Andy Valley edged Augusta 6-5 as Holbrook collected 3 hits, including a triple. Mike Eaton rapped 2 hits, 1 a 3-bagger. Jimmy Palmer and Hasenfus were also repeat hitters. Scott Ogden was the winning hurler in relief of Chip Burnham.
Sunday, AV outlasted Central Maine American 10-6 as Wally Rines got the win with Palmer gaining a save. Burnham socked a triple, double and single and knocked in 2 runs. Ogden was also credited with 2 RBI.
Apple Valley, which has already secured a spot in the state tourney starting Wednesday in Farmington, was set to play in the championship round Monday.
